Interview with Hollywood DarLings on PopTv

Hollywood Darlings

Hollywood Darlings

Hollywood DarLings is PopTv’s newest original comedy series starring our favorite stars from the 90’s. Jodi Sweetin (“Full House,” “FullerHouse”), Christine Lakin (“Step By Step”), and Beverly Mitchell (“7th Heaven”). The premiere is Wednesday, April 12, 8 pm ET/PT.

Hollywood Darlings turns the camera on real-life friends, who are bonded by a sisterhood that only they can share, as former child stars who grew up in the 90’s limelight. In this improvised comedy, the three ladies play exaggerated versions of themselves in their current Hollywood lives. With the support of one another, This girl squad can take on anything when it comes to parenting, friendship, marriage, careers, and life in LA.

We will also see cameos from Soleil Moon Frye, Andrea Barber, Lance Bass, Patrick Duffy and a few more of our favorite 90’s stars.

We recently sat down to interview the cast of HOLLYWOOD DARLINGS on PopTv. Jodi Sweetin, Christine Lakin, and Beverly Mitchell. We talk motherhood, their careers and of course the show, Hollywood Darlings. I really enjoyed this interview.

What did you exaggerate about yourselves to make the show funnier?

Jodie: I am more cynical and dark on the show than in real life. I’m pretty positive on things and motherhood but needed some sort of contrast between the other characters

Beverly: I am a Type-A personality, a super organized and frugal mom, who is prepared for EVERYTHING. But don’t think I’m that uptight, I do know how to relax.

Christine: I am the lovable fool and hippy dippy of the group. I’m the free spirit who goes out on a limb to make these two crazy in their own respective ways.

Will your children be on the show at all or is it just about the three of you?

Beverly– The Show centers around Hollywood Darlings. Who Christine, Jodie and I, Yes we are mothers, but we are also business women and friends. It’s more of us as adults.

Jodie– The content of the show is not really appropriate for children. There is cursing and inappropriate jokes, so we wanted to separate our children from that sort of stuff.

Christine– My daughter appears for a brief time in an episode only because I am breastfeeding, but otherwise, no our children are not in the show.

Who is your core demographic that you are trying to reach the 90’s fans? or the new generation of moms?

Beverly– I think both. The show is about friendship. Everyone is going to find we’re incredibly relatable. You will be ale to connect with us and be like “Oh I’m like that”

Jodie– Yes, definitely we have this shared history together, but I’m still the cleaning lady, do laundry. At the end of the day, you will see that we are just like you.

What do you say to Moms trying to have a good work/life balance?

Beverly– the idea of perfect balance with your work and your life and your motherhood and all of that, I think there is no perfect balance. You will be focused on one or the other and always feeling like you could be doing more. Stay present in what you are doing and don’t feel guilty when at times you can’t make it. I don’t think balance exist in parenthood.

Jodie and Christine- we agree to what Bev just said.

Christine– I try to find balance, keyword being “TRY” I won’t always do it perfectly and I can feel stressed but I am getting better about self-care and finding some time for myself.

I really enjoyed this interview with the Hollywood Darlings, Jodie Beverly, and Christine. It was like I was talking with my gal pals.

Don’t forget to tune into Hollywood Darlings on PopTv for the premiere Wednesday, April 12, 8 pm ET/PT.

**This is a show that the kiddos should not watch. There is cursing and inappropriate jokes.

Abigail Spencer timeless

Interview with Abigail Spencer, Lucy Preston on NBC’s TIMELESS

Abigail Spencer

Recently, I had the opportunity to interview Abigail Spencer, who plays ‘Lucy Preston‘ on NBC’s new action-adventure series TIMELESS. You may know Abigail as ‘Amantha Holden‘ on Rectify, Oz the Great and Powerful, This is Where I Leave You, Chasing Mavericks, This Means War, The Haunting 2, and Cowboys and Aliens.

You may have seen Abigail on television too. Her previous television credits include multi-episode appearances on Suits, Mad Men, Children’s Hospital, and NTSF: SVU, as well as the cult comedy Burning Love.

Most recently, Abigail Spencer can be seen in the role of Lucy Preston on NBC’s New Hit show TIMELESS. TIMELESS airs MONDAY’s 10/9 on NBC.

Timeless is a thrilling action-adventure series that every family will enjoy watching.

A mysterious criminal, Flynn (Goran Visnjic) steals a secret state-of-the-art time machine, intent on destroying America as we know it by changing the past. Our only hope is an unexpected team: Lucy Preston (Abigail Spencer) a history professor; Wyatt Logan (Matt Lanter) a soldier; and Rufus Carlin (Malcolm Barrett) a scientist, who must use the machine’s prototype to travel back in time to critical events. While they must make every effort not to affect the past themselves, they must also stay one step ahead of this dangerous fugitive. But can this handpicked team uncover the mystery behind it all and end his destruction before it’s too late. In case you missed the first episode, there was a twist at the end when Lucy’s present had been altered.

This week’s episode is very interesting and brings up a very important time in history the Assassination of Abraham Lincoln. What will Lucy, Wyatt, and Rufus do to preserve history as we know it?
“The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln” airs Monday, October 10 at 10/9c on NBC
The team can save the life of one of our history’s greatest men. Lucy (Abigail Spencer), Wyatt (Matt Lanter) and Rufus (Malcolm Barrett) chase terrorist Garcia Flynn (Goran Visnjic) to the night of Lincoln’s assassination, where they are horrified to learn that Flynn’s linked up with history’s notorious assassin, John Wilkes Booth. Putting aside a tragedy of her own, Lucy speculates that Flynn intends to send the fragile nation into chaos by making a bad thing worse, and a debate rages among the team: should they alter history if it means changing it for the better? This episode you do not want to miss!

Interview with Abigail Spencer

Stacey– What drew you to the role of Lucy?

Abigail– As an actress, you become invested in this person (the character). I didn’t want to play a hero. But when five other actresses that are reading for the role themselves, call and say “this role is perfect for you. You need to play Lucy”. I was still unsure until I met with the creators of the show. You need to identify with the character, have a connection with the role. Lucy is an underdog, and I really respond to that. I love how the teacher is the hero. Lucy’s super power so-to-speak is her intelligence. Lucy is a great role model for woman.

Stacey– There is a debate in the show, should they alter history if it means changing it for the better?  If you could change history to alter it for the better should/would you?

Abigail– That is definitely a debate in the show, changing history if you could? That is also a hard question to answer because we are all connected, so there is a ripple effect, ramifications for our actions. We all matter in the grand scheme of things. It’s a matter of fate vs. free will. On a personal level, yes there are moments in my life that I would like to have gone differently. But if things had been different, then life would not be as it is now. We learn from history, not to repeat certain aspects, to learn from our mistakes.

Stacey– As a working mother, How do you have a work/life balance?

Abigail–  Work/Life balance is the constant quest. You need to be totally present for your kids. My son Roman(8) has been on every set that I’ve worked on except when he is in school. If we are shooting out-of-town, I fly home on the weekends. As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. Thanks to a great family friend, my nanny is a huge help with my son keeping a routine. Just like any mom, I take it one day at a time. To quote Amy Poehler “Every working mom needs a wife”.

TIMELESS is going to be NBC’s new hit series. My family and I enjoy watching the show Monday nights at 10/9c on NBC. Check your local listings. This show brings history to life, and we enjoy that.

Have you seen the first episode? What do you think of the show?

As a side note, my son’s name is a character in the show. Can you guess which one? Tell me below in the comments what you think.

Dr. Ken

Interview with Ken Jeong, ABC’s Dr. Ken

Dr. Ken airs Fridays at 8:30 pm ET/7:30 Central on ABC.

I am a big fan of the ABC show Dr. Ken. My family and I watch the show every Friday night. We know we are guaranteed a laugh. So I was very excited when I had the opportunity to interview Dr. Ken.

I recently had the opportunity to talk with Ken Jeong, from the ABC show Dr. Ken. You may know him best as the Asian mobster Mr. Chow in the hit comedies The Hangover, the Hangover 2 and 3. Ken has had memorable roles in the feature films, Knocked Up as the Doctor, Role Models, Pineapple Express, and Step Brothers. He was most recently seen in Universal’s Ride Along 2. Other film credits include The Duff, Transformers 3, Despicable Me 2, and Nom of the North.

We have seen Ken on TV as well. Ken was a series regular on the critically acclaimed NBC show Community. His most recent endeavor is the ABC show, Dr. Ken. This show is based on Ken’s life before acting.  Before he was an actor Ken was a real honest-to-goodness M.D.

About Dr. Ken:

Doctor turned actor/comedian Ken Jeong plays Dr. Ken Park, a brilliant physician with no bedside manner. Ken brings medicine and laughter together as a grumpy and annoyed HMO doctor. He is always trying to be a good doctor, as well as a good husband and dad to his two kids. Dr. Ken’s challenging professional life is trumped only by his home life. Luckily, his therapist wife Allison is just the right partner to keep things sane.

This Friday’s (10/7) episode, Ken’s real-life daughter will make an appearance on the show. When a neighbor girl, Emily, (Molly Jeong) stands outside the kitchen window staring at Dave (Albert Tsai), and Molly, (Krista Marie Yu) and D.K. try to scare her off. Ken is surprised when he learns Pat, instead of him, is asked to emcee this year’s annual Welltopia banquet. Clark (Jonathan Slavin) and Damona (Tisha Campbell-Martin) debate relationship as it relates to their individual partners.

Interview with Dr. Ken.

Stacey– What do you want America to take away from your show?

Ken– Our ultimate goal is to entertain. We want families to laugh. We wanted to show the perspective of the Asian American family, without being preachy or very Asian-centric. It a very modern, and updated perspective of a 2nd generation Asian American family. We want the show to be relatable, grounded, and dig deeper into real life situations.

Stacey– Your real-life daughter Molly is playing Emily, a neighbor girl, in this week’s episode. Will she have a recurring role on the show?

Ken– Yes, my real daughter Molly has a role in this week’s episode and next week’s episode as well. If she appears in more episodes depends on the storyline and her agent (her mom/Ken’s wife). I had a few proud parent moments while watching my daughter during the taping. She really was very professional, especially taping in front of a LIVE studio audience.

Stacey– Dr. Ken is based on your real life before you became an actor/comedian. Will the show follow that direction as well, or will it continue as it is now, with an HMO setting?

Ken Dr. Ken is based on my real life before I became an actor. I wanted the show to be an alternative timeline to becoming an actor. It reflects my life as if acting never happened. I really did work with my wife at the same company, like the characters are portraying on the show.

I really enjoyed speaking with Ken as he spoke about the show, the cast, and everyone behind the scenes. Ken is a hilariously funny guy and Dr. Ken is just as hilarious to watch.
